about
I wrote this hymn at the beginning of the pandemic. Facing so much uncertainty, I needed to set my hope on Christ. I find I need it even more now a year later. The chorus is adapted from a famous prayer by Saint Patrick.
lyrics
When all things have come undone
And the storm clouds hide the sun
There is a hope but only one
The hope of Christ our savior
When time is standing deadly still
And strength won't rise to meet our will
There is a hope that fear won't kill
The hope of Christ our savior
Christ before me, Christ behind me
In his strength I rise
Be my guard, Lord, near and far, Lord
No dread can surprise
The hope of Christ
Look and see what God has done
On the cross his holy Son
The debt is paid, the victory won
All praise to Christ our savior
Christ before me, Christ behind me
In his strength I rise
Be my guard, Lord, near and far, Lord
No dread can surprise
The hope of Christ
All my fears, all my failures
They fall at the hope of Christ
All my fears, all my failures
They fall at the hope of Christ
As we draw this anxious breath
And heartache stalks our every step
There is a hope that conquers death
The hope of Christ our savior
Christ before me, Christ behind me
In his strength I rise
Be my guard, Lord, near and far, Lord
No dread can surprise
The hope of Christ
All my fears, all my failures
They fall at the hope of Christ
All my fears, all my failures
They fall at the hope of Christ
